ISID Constructs Tokyo Stock Exchange's Information Distribution System for Major Financial Institutions

-Starting Information Distribution Service on November 5-

Information Services International Dentsu Ltd (head office location: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; President and Managing Director Jutaro Takinami -- hereafter referred to as ISID), has developed and constructed a Web-based system of information distribution for financial institutions (formally named as Tokyo Market Information), for Tokyo Stock Exchange Ltd (hereafter referred to as the Tokyo Stock Exchange; head office location: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; represented by Masaaki Tsuchida).

The provision of this service will start at Tokyo Stock Exchange on November 5.

Drawing on its wealth of experience in Web development and in systems for financial institutions, ISID will continue to support the information distribution service that is one of the most important spheres of business operations of Tokyo Stock Exchange.

[Background]

The present situation is one in which there are few services providing accurate financial information quickly with a full coverage, and in the form of CSV files that users can easily process. Furthermore, the globalization of the investment environment has resulted in a demand for a system whereby information can be provided in real time not only in Japanese but also in English

"Tokyo Market Information", the information service that Tokyo Stock Exchange is to start providing, was constructed to solve these problems using the most up-to-date Web technology.

[What the Service Offers]

The information distribution service that will start up on November 5 (named formally as "Tokyo Market Information") presents the information held by the Tokyo Stock Exchange in a condensed and edited form, with some thought being given to the possibility in the future of expanding the scope of contents as needed. The information presented is broadly divided into news about corporate activity ("Corporate Action Information") and basic information from TOPIX (the Tokyo Stock Price Index).

1. "Corporate Action Information"

"Corporate Action Information" is aimed primarily at banks, trust banks and securities firms that exercise custody operations and/or securities keeping operations, and is a service providing information about such corporate business activities as dividends, mergers, capital expansions etc.

Among the characteristics of this service can be mentioned: a large amount of information carried about listed or public companies; availability of the information by a choice of two routes: via the Web service (Internet) or by file transfer (via a direct line); availability of an English version of the Web service; the installation of a function enabling users to download data that they can utilize for themselves.

2. Basic TOPIX Information

The basic TOPIX information is the service that provides accurate information as a basis for extracting indices mainly for fund managers operating "passive" management (e.g. following stock price movements), administrators of relevant data, clients engaged in risk management etc.

Among the characteristics of this service can be mentioned: the promise of a high level of reliability given that the Tokyo Stock Exchange is the source of the indices; the supplying in advance of information regarding numbers of stocks and the addition/deletion of brands, that would be a basis for calculating future indices; also the fact that the information can be downloaded.

[Reasons for Selecting ISID]

With regard to the construction of this information distribution system, the Tokyo Stock Exchange attached particular importance to selecting a system integrator who fulfilled the following essential conditions:

  • having the requisite ability in the marketing of information distribution systems;
  • a company with excellent development technology and an outstanding track record in the field of Web system development; coupled with
  • know-how in the securities business into which the system was to be introduced.

ISID's strength was seen to lie in the marketing know-how it possesses in common with the Dentsu Group, developed in the course of setting up internet banking; in addition, ISID's long track record in Web development in Japan (experience in developing large-scale systems within a short timeframe; systems with a high level of reliability; a wealth of experience in system integration); knowledge of the securities business developed through having set up many stock-trading systems: these points, together with other aspects of the company's record, were highly valued by the Tokyo Stock Exchange and led to ISID's receiving the order for this project.
