ISID's local Malaysian operation receives Multi-Media Super Corridor (MSC) Status

A move towards strengthening manufacturing business in South-East Asia

Information Services International - Dentsu Ltd.'s (ISID; Head Office in Nakano, Tokyo; Jutaro Takinami, CEO; ¥8180.5 million in capital) local Malaysian operation ISI-Dentsu (Malaysia) Sdn.Bhd. (abbreviated name: ISID Malaysia; Representative: Hiroshi TANAKA) in July of this year received "Multi-Media Super Corridor (MSC) Status" from the Malaysian government. Along with this, the Kuala Lumpur office is being expanded, further sales and support staff are being recruited and business activities have commenced in earnest. ISID and ISID Malaysia plan to strengthen IT business systems for the manufacturing industry with the manufacturing strongpoint being Malaysia - where even further development is expected -as well as in the surrounding regions.

[MSC Status]

MSC (Multi-Media Super Corridor) is a program of the Malaysian government designed to stimulate the IT industry by enticing foreign IT companies to Malaysia. To receive MSC status, a company must fulfil the necessary conditions (type of business, business planning etc.) for an IT company as prescribed by the government (MDC: Multimedia Development Corporation). Foreign companies receiving MSC status can: (1) develop business with 100% ISID capital (2) are assured freedom of employment, and can obtain working visas easily (3) receive favourable treatment and benevolence such as easy access to local Malaysian businesses.

ISID Malaysia submitted an application to the relevant authorities for MSC ("Multi-Media Super Corridor) status, and was officially granted the status by the Malaysian government in July 2001.

[Background]

From about 1996, ISID has been developing business supporting the sale of and technical support for 3D CAD, CAM and CAE and the international design and development business for the joint Japanese and the local manufacturing industry in the ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, with ISID's local Singaporean operation at its centre. In response to Malaysia's expanding domestic business needs, the expansion of ISID's Malaysian office and acquisition of MSC status will provide backup for the restructuring of product design and development processes and harmonious cooperation in the international manufacturing industry which is undergoing continuing globalisation both internally and externally.

[Types of services]

ISID Malaysia will supply peripheral software and hardware tools centred on the sale and support of CAD, CAM and CAE, as well as training and technical support for start-ups etc. The same high value-added services as in Japan such as design business consultancy and implementation of PDM systems will be offered as required.

[ISID's relationship with "ACC activity" - ISID's stance]

The Japanese manufacturing industry, in the midst of global competition, is feeling the pressure to further cut back costs and reduce lead times.

In particular, there has been a rapid increase in the number of corporations moving into the ASEAN countries and China fuelled by the need to cut back production costs and by further global business specialisation. In response to these trends, ISID last year started support for Japanese manufacturing companies moving into Asia and Japanese-Asian collaborations, called "ACC (Asian Collaboration Centre) Activity". This so-called "Centre" did not require the construction of an actual building, but rather the ISID head office and the ISID group of companies in the Asian region jointly own local Asian business knowledge, and support collaborative product design and development and production between the joint Japanese and local manufacturing industry developing in the Asian region.

Cooperative support between Japan and the local Asian industry has already begun through the accumulation of technology and strengthening of support systems for the local Singapore and Hong Kong operations and the representative office in Shanghai.

From these activities it is expected that business in the ASEAN countries and China, Hong Kong and Taiwan will expand and the corporate value of the ISID group in joint manufacturing operations with Japan will increase.
